Thursday, May 20, 1999 - The Great Seafood Hunt Ah, Linda Hurst did snag the best bed, but that is okay, she is staying longer than I am and she does have the stool!

After a quick visit to the bathroom, a fast unpack, I am ready to join Linda in the hunt for some seafood. Actually, since I haven't eaten all day, I am starving!!!

We adjourned to the lobby to meet the others who were going to go out on the hunt. First thing off the elevator, I see that nice lady, but now surrounded by a bevy of other women who could only be ... you guessed it ... CRers!!!!

Linda Rose, Karen Wheless, Connie Ramsdell were with some new women whose names I recognized from messages: Madeline McIntire, Livia and Maudeen, and michelle, Lori Alpert. It was fabulous!!

After greetings and hugs, the group divided: those who had to stuff the goodie bags, those who wanted to dine with their husbands, and the GREAT SEAFOOD HUNTERS.

THE HUNT

First you need a place to go, then you need transportation, oh, of course, I nearly forgot, you also need some intrepid adventurers!! Four of us were up to the task!! Lori Alpert, Michelle Gomez, Linda Hurst and myself!

THE PLACE

On the advice of the bell captain, SEAFOOD UNLIMITED was selected as our objective. He also provided transport in the guise of a beatup old Lincoln Town Car, black of course. The intrepid group was off!

Seafood Unlimited is also a fish market. Actually, it is a fish market with a little seating area in the rear, sandwiched between the cash register and the kitchen. After walking past the fresh fish of the day laid out for purchase, past the tanks of fresh lobster, we were seated at the wall side of a communal table.

The place was very busy, all the tables are full. The menu on the wall, was a huge blackboard. The waiter also gave us a funky little menu. The night's special was a $10 1.8 pound lobster dinner. Three of the group go for it. I take the Crab Imperial. Soon we see our wait person carrying back three squirming black clawed things -- dinner is on its way. At least they didn't make them pick them out. All I could think was "Pinchie" from a recent Simpson's episode where Homer made a pet out his dinner. <shudder>

This was a very casual place, when Linda asked for a bib they brought her a plastic sack. No joke. Then they brought two more. If you tie the handles around your neck it allows the main bag to serve as a bib. They looked very classy. I forget the logo on the bag, wasn't that memorable.

Dinner was good, dessert excellent, conversation fabulous. A great night with new and old friends. What more could I ask for? Well, apparently, the check!

A horrendous odor filled the eating area, we were the only ones left I noticed. It appeared that it was time to go. As soon as we paid and left the building, they rushed out and slapped the burglar gates on the plate glass window. A sign perhaps? Linda took it as my usual exit and so introduced Michelle and Lori to the dangers of eating with Sara.

We had asked for a cab to be called and stood on the curb and waited. And waited. And waited. You get the picture. Finally after the restaurant people, afraid perhaps of finding bodies on their sidewalk the next morning, called again the cab arrived. Back to the Westin we flew. Cheaper this way.

It was time to visit the QMCers in the Queen's room.
